The Clean Truck Check (CTC) is a California Air Resources Board (CARB) program that requires diesel trucks operating in California to pass a tailpipe emissions test to confirm the engine and emissions control systems are working properly. The program is designed to reduce diesel emissions from heavy-duty vehicles. If your truck hauls loads into California — even occasionally — it must comply.
Yes. CARB compliance is based on where your truck operates, not where it's registered. If your truck enters California at any point, it must meet Clean Truck Check requirements. This is one of the most common misconceptions for Nevada-based owner-operators and fleets. Operating a non-compliant truck in California can result in fines, citations, and being placed out of service.
The program applies to diesel-fueled heavy-duty trucks and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 14,000 lbs that are model year 2011 and newer. This includes semi-trucks, box trucks, refuse haulers, and other commercial diesel vehicles. Some vehicles may be exempt — contact us if you're unsure whether your truck qualifies.
Test frequency depends on the model year and engine type of your vehicle. Most trucks require testing every six months based on your deadline. CARB maintains a compliance schedule based on your truck's registration and or last digit of your vin number, and you'll receive notices when testing is due. We can look up your truck's specific testing window when you call.
Absolutely. We regularly service fleets with 5, 10, 20+ trucks in a single appointment. We schedule fleet appointments in blocks and run tests back to back so your trucks stay productive. If you're managing a fleet, call us and we'll coordinate a time that works for your operation.
Testing starts at $150 per vehicle. Pricing varies depending on the number of trucks and your location. Fleet pricing is available — contact us for a quote if you have more than three trucks to test.

Have the truck warmed up and running before we arrive — the engine should be at normal operating temperature for an accurate test. Please have the vehicle registration and VIN available. If the truck was recently serviced, had the battery disconnected, or any codes were cleared, complete at least 3–4 drive cycles before testing so the emissions monitors can reset properly. That's all you need — we handle the rest.
A failed test means your truck's emissions are above the acceptable limit. We'll give you a detailed report showing what the truck failed on, which you can take to a qualified diesel repair shop. Once repairs are made, the truck will need to be re-tested. Once you're vehicle has been repaired and you have completed at least 3-4 drive cycles, stop by the shop for a free retest!
